Active Engagement

Active engagement is giving the person in the conversation attention to show that your listening to them. This will then make clear to them whether you understand their statement or are a bit confused. Acknowledging what people are saying is the basics of a conversation as it shows you are a good listener and in a job will make your employer come to you more as you understand them and are polite. Active engagement will make you seem more friendly towards people and therefore will want to be around you more as it creates a good atmosphere, Examples of active engagement is just nodding to show that you understand or if you don't make this clear and pull a confused face or politely ask them to explain more. Paraphrasing is another way to make clear you understand and will just emphasise your understanding as it shows you listened to all of what they were saying. A way to overcome this barrier is to make eye contact with people and try to avoid reading off the script if possible this comes off as a more personal presentation.
